Who we are

The Embassy of Italy in Ljubljana manages the bilateral relations with Slovenia, bordering country and fellow European Union member.

The Head of Mission is H.E. Ambassador Giuseppe Cavagna.

Based on the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations dated April 18, 1961, the functions of an Embassy are, among others:

  • To represent Italy in Slovenia;
  • To protect the interests of the Italian Republic and of its nationals in Slovenia, within the limits permitted by international law;
  • To negotiate with the Government of Slovenia;
  • To ascertain by all lawful means conditions and developments in Slovenia, and report thereon to the Italian Government;
  • To promote friendly relations between Italy and Slovenia, and develop their economic, cultural and scientific relations.

The Embassy of Italy in Slovenia, organised in offices composed by personnel from the Ministry of International Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as other Italian public Administration entities, coordinates a network composed by the Italian General Consulate in Capodistria/Koper, the Italian Institute of Culture in Ljubljana, and the Italian Trade Agency in Ljubljana.
